Default Private Tutoring

Many students require additional guidance in their subjects along with the regular classes in college. There can be various factors why it is needed. Regular classes have a fixed curriculum and teachers will cover only those topics that are outlined in the course. In one semester it is not possible to cover every topic in detail and many aspects of a subject may not be covered. A private tutor can help a student understand a subject better and get a better grasp on the subject. It will help the student to study further on the subject and make a career out of it. A private tutor teaches students outside the normal college hours either in his home or a place where he may run his coaching classes. Students also attend private tuition if they are not able to grasp the subject properly in the class.

A private tutor is generally a graduate or a post graduate who has a good understanding of the subject. He may be an ex-teacher or a professional who is associated with the subject. As a rule teachers who are associated with a college are not allowed by college rules to offer coaching to students in private. Generally people start private tuition because of their love of the subject or simply because they love to teach. This interest or hobby can slowly grow into a full time profession and it is not uncommon to find people quitting their regular jobs to take-up private tuitions full time. In the United States and Canada a tutor is often referred to as a teaching assistant.

Private tutors can carry on their profession as individuals or may form an institute where teachers are hired to teach students. In countries such as India it is very common to find private tuition institutes that prepare students for getting admission to medical, engineering and management programs. Institutes also prepare students to become competitive for their secondary school exams. Students benefit from these programs immensely and if private tuition classes are attended with sincerity students can score high marks in different competitive exams. Private tutoring can also be done at a peer-to-peer level where seniors teach students who are one-level or two lower in college. This is a very helpful way to impart knowledge and appreciated by many colleges.

If a student is planning to attend a private tuition class there should be a proper analysis of the need and parents should suggest on the best way forward. If the objective of attending the tuition classes are not fulfilled students will not benefit from the entire exercise. Teachers who are giving the private tuition should also chalk out proper curricula to help students understand the subject better. Unfortunately, private tuition has become a business for many people and the objective of imparting knowledge to the students is lost. Making money has become one of the major reasons of starting institutes and as a result students suffer from the lack of quality education. Hence, before a student joins a private tuition class a due-diligence is must.
