At least from my limited experience the first thing I would do is to gauge your pupil's ability via a small test and then go on from there.

Split the hour into half and teach a particular chapter first, then in the remaining half go through the questions together. In your next sessions, spend the first 10 min examining the homework you set, teach a new chapter for 30 min and go through the next 20min, questions from the new chapter.
