Question What can parents do to help?

Other than pay for tutoring of course. I want to help but I can't be of any academic use. Is it a good idea to evesdrop on tutoring sessions or should I keep out of it? It was so much easier when all I had to do was play the timetables tape in the car!

In reality there is probably very little you can do academically that would be of any use. Unless you know the subject well and you and your kid are on good terms. The stress of exams can turn even the pleasant teenager into a surly whatsit. Cut them some slack. Don't nag about dirty laundry etc. It will keep you both sane if you just let things slide when exams and deadlines loom.

I don't think it is true you can't help. Just be patient. Streesed teeneagers are like frightened animals, the just need some gentle coaxing into the real world!Being a sounding board for revision is always helpful. But Sally is right. Exam time is no time to nag.

It starts when they are little. If you ar ethe kind of parent who reads to their kids and takes an active interest in there school work, you are probably already doing the right things.
