Question How much tutoring?

I'm just looking for advice for my son. How much tutoring do you think is nescessary for GCSE if somebody is really behind? I have got the school to reduce his timetable but I still think he needs extra help. (he missed school due to illness) I want him to get at least maths and english.

Have you though about letting him repeat the year. If it is just a question of time and not a learning difficulty. Loads of extra school on top of recovering from an illness seems like a lot to deal with.

He doesn't want to repeat the year. He hasn't got any problems learning he has just missed a lot of school.

Hi Janet. I am in a similar position. Don't over do it with the tutoring. My mum (god love her) used to get me tutoring every day after school and I hated it and switched off.
Maybe and hour for maths and one for english

I would say an extra hour of both maths and english is a fine idea.
It is probably just enough to consolidate any tricky subjects. I would take a look at the syllabus for all the subjects he is taking and go through the content with him. Make sure that any coursework is up to date and handed in. Christmas holidays is a great time to set out a revision schedule as there is still plenty of time left.
