Exclamation The Dreaded CRB

I just wanted to let people know it is possible to get a CRB without having an employer. You can use
CRBCHECK.INFO : Home
They are really quick and the charge was about £50 which isn' too bad. It just gives the parents that extra bit of confidence. Especially if you're a dodgy looking bloke like me!

Any way hope this helps.

Should I ask any tutor to provide a CRB? I don't really know what it is or how to rerify it. How easy are they to check?
Would a good tutor already have one. How long do they take to get if my current tutor doesn't have one?

It all seems very confusing

I'm not sure how much value you put on it. If your tutor works in a school, they will already have been checked against all the relevant registers.
They will already have a CRB and will be able to show you. If you ring the CRB place with a reference number then they should be anle to verify the details.
More valuable, however, would be references from other mums and proof of qualifications.

Thanks for that Mike it is certainly food for thought.

I asked my son'e current tutor for references which I was happy with but I am now in the process of finding another 2 and they are people I don't know. It seems more complicated each time.

I work in a school so I already have a CRB. Anyone who works in a school will already have one.

What you have to remember is that it only records convictions. It is not a certificate of good character. You should def get references and have a good long chat to the person yourself, so you can get a feel for them.

I agree with totbgirl you should get a feel for the person yourself and call in references. I don't like to alarm anyone but people slip through the CRB crack all the time. (Ian Huntly?!?)
Anyone working in a school should be checkable. You can ring the school and politlely enquire whether they actually work there.

I've worked in my current school for 6 years and for 8 years in my previous school. Because they're both in the same authority, a new CRB check was not carried out as it wasn't considered necessary at the time so not all teachers will have a 'current' certificate.
